It’s the Abuse of Love Do you remember when you were young When happy tunes and twinkle little star’s what we sung Not that much taller than the kitchen table When all had just begun and the world was free of labels It was simple back then, Mum and Dad made the path clear But today it’s hard to know where to go sometimes you fear Now as I’m older I’ve come to know our responsibility To the children around us in shaping who they will be You know, we can learn a lot from little ones Be reminded of who we are and that not everything’s about us Humbleness, trust and openness are some of the Qualities of a child which men outta keep But man has the world strayed from protecting our children We’ve failed these generations by trusting institutions Who have been corrupted by the most evil of men We must stand up now for it not to happen again Chorus God is love, we’re his little children It’s the abuse of love it’s the abuse of trust God is love, we would be like Him It’s the abuse of love The love that unites all of us Tis love that makes me happy, tis love that smooths the way True love makes us happy True love smooths the way It helps us mind and makes us kind to others everyday So don’t give up on love now, You can find it today This abuse of children I just can’t fathom A life can be ruined by a moment of selfish ambition How could something created for love be so misused By people you’d think such a thought would be refused When I hear the word ‘priest’ I’d like to think of a man of God But that’s just not what comes to mind anymore In a world so corrupted with these acts happenin in the masses Ye who have done this, to you I only have one message You were once a child you knew what it’s like You knew what love was, when did your sense of wrong and right Disappear, you have ears, you hear their cries You can see the pain and sorrow engraved in their eyes I can’t say I know what life has put you through But I do know that it’s always possible to make it without Losing heart or sense of good, because it’s up to you So for me, I see no excuse for why you do the things you do Chorus You may ask why we still sing ‘God is Love’ And why he failed to stop these things from heaven above Yes sometimes it can be so hard to understand But I believe that this could not have happened by His hand Because we can’t forget that there’s too an evil one Who brought sin & pain to this earth before our lives even begun And if you’d like to know what Jesus has to say about this You’ll find it in a Bible, Matthew eighteen, two to six And it’s sad that the church doesn’t always practice what it’s preached But I guess I have to think of how no human’s perfect And no it cannot excuse all the pain and abuse But we must not let it hinder our faith and hope in good People of the world it’s time to end the silence And bring justice to child sexual abuse victims and survivors Be aware of the world we live in for our kids protection And let’s love the little children like our father in heaven Chorus

Stories Hey boy did you know, that the man over there; in the suit; well that’s all he owns. Hey girl did you know, that the man with the unshaven beard and the raggedy clothes; he has a million bucks. We all look but we don’t see all the different stories that we don’t want to read. We all look but we don’t see all the different stories that we don’t want to read. Hey boy you’re killing me, when you walk past that girl on the street; she was kicked out of school and her home at fifteen and now she has nowhere else to go. Hey girl did you see that man, begging; as you walked out of that shop. He has no place to call his own or his home, no-no-o-o-o oh-o-o-o We all look but we don’t see all the different stories that we don’t want to read. We all look but we don’t see all the different stories that we don’t want to read. We all look but we don’t see; ‘cause we keep our heads down. We need to look up and read the stories that are all around. We all look but we don’t see all the different stories that we don’t want to read. We all look but we don’t see all the different stories that we don’t want to read.

Grey Lines I don’t understand what is going on right now. I don’t even know what is right or what is wrong, anymore. I’m crying on the inside, and all I see is grey lines. I’m looking from the outside and there is no black and there is no white. Everything has changed, from what I thought I knew. What was once new is old and what’s old is nothing like the new. It’s making me so very confused. The black and the white smudged together only make grey lines. I’m crying on the inside, and all I see is grey lines. I’m looking from the outside and there is no black and there is no white. And I oh I, Yes I oh I, don’t know where to stand. I’m crying on the inside, and all I see is grey lines. I’m looking from the outside and there is no black and there is no white. I’m crying on the inside I’m looking from the outside And there is no black and there is no white No, there is no black and there is no white All I see is grey lines.

Thank you for taking the time listen to the Created In Canberra Project. This album is a culmination of the musical talents of young people within the Canberra region. It's clear from listening to the songs that our young people possess a great deal of musical abilities and have a bright future in their chosen fields. A great big thank you to the generosity of the artists on this project for sharing their original music and talents to this album.

What is The Street University?
The Street University is a youth development project created by the Ted Noffs Foundation which provides various community based services and interactive spaces for people aged 12 – 25. Our aim is to help them realise their dreams, harness their potential and to create positive outcomes for their lives and their community.

The Street University’s mentors and facilitators use a multifaceted range of youth work, counselling and community development techniques in order to combine progressive approaches to social work with grassroots community participation. We experiment with the artistic and social potential made possible by a uniquely Australian multi-ethnic, inter-faith, socially diverse culture.

Operating in this multicultural environment, the Street University opens up dynamic and democratic spaces for marginalised and displaced cultures. Programs specialise in channelling young people away from personally destructive and anti-social behaviours to improved self-esteem, inter-communal co-operation and social engagement. Our services involve parents, schools, local councils and businesses, the state government and community and religious groups and leaders.

The Street University uses the commonality of cultural settings that are familiar and attractive to young people to guide, support and transform their interests into vocational and educational success.
